Eagles secure six national qualifying times during day three of SAC Championships

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Carson-Newman swim ended night three of the SAC Swimming Championships with multiple spots on the podium.

The Eagles finished night three of four at the SAC Swimming Championships with a first-place finish and multiple qualifying cuts.

Kyla Blakemore won gold in the women's 100-yard backstroke in 54.90. Blakemore earned an NCAA "B" Cut for her performance as well as a new personal best in the event. On the men's side of the event, Arthur Gluzman finished in second with an NCAA "B" Cut time of 48.82. Gluzman beat his personal best (50.33) by over a second. Matthew George finished the event in 49.45 to place fourth.

In the women's 500-yard freestyle, Rachel Peden placed second with a finals time of 4:57.92 securing another "B" Cut for the Eagles. Jed Little won the 'B' Final for the men's 500-yard freestyle in 4:40.45.

Breanna Belcher secured an NCAA "B" Cut in the women's 100-yard breaststroke with her fourth-place finish and finals time of 1:03.91. Asger Hartvig finished second on the men's side of the event in 54.44. Hartvig also received a "B" Cut in the event.

Maria Tirulli placed third in the women's 200-yard butterfly in 2:05.80, and Blakemore finished fourth in 2:06.03. In the men's 200-yard butterfly, Guilherme Martins placed second with his NCAA "B" Cut performance (1:48.32). Will Humphreys won the 'B' Final for the event in 1:51.64.

In the women's 800-yard freestyle, Carson-Newman women's swim placed second with a finals time of 7:42.49. The men's team also placed second in the event in 6:39.66.

At the end of day three, both the men's and women's teams remain in second place. The women have 1,266 points, and the men have accumulated 1,148 points over the first three days of competition. The Eagles will compete in the final day of the SAC Swimming Championships tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 11 beginning at 10:00 a.m.
