Eagles exhibit consistent growth throughout Tennessee Invitational

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.- Eagles end day three with an array of personal, season, and school records.

Carson-Newman swim left their final day in Knoxville, Tenn. with new records and another qualifying time.

"We definitely had some massive swims from the last night. Rachel's mile was a season best and super close to her lifetime best. Will Humphreys came up big in the 200-yard backstroke. That's just the tip of the iceberg. All in all, it was a fantastic meet for us on both sides," head swim coach Ben Young said.

Rachel Peden recorded her best 1650-yard freestyle of the season in 17:06.28. Peden now holds the top two times for the event in Carson-Newman swimming history. Kyla Blakemore competed in the 'B' final for the women's 200-yard backstroke and broke her own 100-yard backstroke record during the race to finish in 2:00.00.

Manon Compagner broke the Carson-Newman swimming record for the 100-yard freestyle in the prelims with a time of 49.47. The previous record stood since 2016 when Margaret Stansberry finished the race in 49.92. Compagner now holds the first, third, fourth, and sixth fastest recorded times in the women's 100-yard freestyle for the Eagles.

Compagner also helped the Eagles secure a national cut and break the school record in the 400-yard freestyle relay with Kennadi King, Antonia Sanint, and Lily Parr. The women finished with a final time of 3:23.35. The previous record was set in 2017 in 3:24.32.

"We got in and definitely competed with everyone in that meet. It ended up being one of the fastest, if not the fastest, meets in the nation. So, for us to have that kind of a meet showed that we did not hold back considering the level of competition," Young said.

On the men's side, Henrique Januario competed in the 'B' final for the 200-yard breaststroke and finished with a finals time of 2:02.33. Guilherme Martins completed the 200-yard butterfly 'C' final in 1:49.25.

In the 200-yard backstroke, Will Humphreys (1:49.93) finished in under 1:50.00 for the first time. During the men's 100-yard freestyle, Arthur Gluzman (45.07) and Ridge McCay (45.41) both recorded season bests.

"I'm super proud of these guys. There are always improvements to be made, but I told the team I would go back to the drawing board and make the changes necessary to get us to where we need to be by the end of the season," Young said.

The Eagles will swim again Dec. 10 against Emory & Henry at home.
