Seventh annual Blue v. Orange World Championships for C-N swim Friday night

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – As the 2022-23 swim season begins, Carson-Newman's blue and orange intrasquad teams will try to break a 3-3 series tie at the seventh annual Blue v. Orange World Championships Friday at 5:00 p.m. in the Maddox Pool.

Stiff competition in the Maddox Pool as both intrasquad teams have won three out of six Blue v. Orange World Championships. The series is currently tied at 3-3 between blue and orange, but one team will leave Friday evening in the lead. "It really is good competition, and it has always been competitive, which is why you see that fluctuation of which team takes the win every year," Young said.

The event is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 23 at 5:00 p.m. in the Maddox Pool. It will be the first full team event for the Eagles this season, as well as the first home event for C-N this year.

"We are excited to get out as a team and really get the season under way. This meet always lets us get a feel on what we need to work on, who has been working over the summer and who hasn't done as much, and it lets us focus our efforts for the rest of the season. I am ready to see us get up and race, and this is a great opportunity for us to do just that by racing ourselves," head swim coach Ben Young said.

In order to set the meet up, senior captains have the responsibility of drafting in new players to their teams. This format is in place so the team starts to think about picking lineups, giving them an opportunity for insight on the coaching thought process.

"It gives them an opportunity to see the sport from our perspective as coaches as well because they are faced with difficult decisions and figuring out who swims in what event throughout the meet," Young said.

Young looks forward to gauging where the team is at early in this season. "We always look at this event from year to year and see where some of the team has improved. We want the team to go out and have fun, but this is also a great opportunity to get into the water and be competitive with a little bit less pressure before conference competition begins," Young said.

The Eagles will open the season this Friday in the Maddox Pool on Carson-Newman's campus at 5:00 p.m. Follow along and find results on cneagles.com.
