Six Eagles selected for the 2023 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- Carson-Newman swim is set to send at least six athletes to the 2023 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships beginning Wednesday, Mar. 8.

For the men, Asger Hartvig, Henrique Januario, and Hobson Stelling were each invited to attend the meet. All three of the men are sophomores for the Eagles.

Hartvig will swim the men's 100-yard breaststroke and was selected for his 54.14-second swim at the South Atlantic Conference Swimming Championships.

Henrique Januario was selected to attend for his 3:55.43-second 400-yard individual medley race.

Hobson Stelling will swim the men's 100-yard freestyle for his 43.91-second selection time at the SAC Championships.

The men also have an eligible relay that allows up to four relay-only swimmers to attend the national competition. The men's 200-yard freestyle relay afforded the Eagles that opportunity with a 1:20.77 entry time.

Guilherme Martins is a men's selection alternate in the 200-yard butterfly for his 1:48.24-second performance.

On the women's side, Rachel Peden, Manon Compagner, and Kyla Blakemore have the opportunity to compete in the championships.

Peden is a senior for the Eagles and was invited for four separate events. Her 500-yard freestyle (4:54.54), 400-yard individual medley (4:22.61), 1,650-yard freestyle (17:06.28), and 1,000-yard freestyle (10:10.32) each afforded her a spot to compete. Peden secured two qualifying times at the Tennessee Invitational earlier this season and her last two during the SAC Championships where she grabbed four different spots on the podium.

Manon Compagner is another senior who secured four separate qualifying times. Compagner was invited to the championships for her 50-yard freestyle (22.78), 200-yard freestyle (1:49.11), 100-yard freestyle (49.47), and 100-yard butterfly (52.92). Three of Compagner's qualifying times were locked in during the SAC Swimming Championships and the other was secured at the Tennessee Invitational in Knoxville, Tenn.

Kyla Blakemore is junior for Carson-Newman swim. Blakemore will swim the 100-yard backstroke for her selected time of 54.90 as well as the 200-yard backstroke that she swam in 1:59.66 to qualify. Blakemore secured both selection times during the SAC Swimming Championships to win gold in the 100-yard backstroke and silver in the 200-yard backstroke events.

The women's 200-yard freestyle is an eligible relay that will allow up to four relay-only swimmers to attend nationals with the Eagles. The women secured the invitation in 1:33.28.

The Eagles will compete at the 2023 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships beginning Wednesday, Mar. 8 in Indianapolis, Ind.
