Blakemore takes on All-American title in day three of national championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- Kyla Blakemore adds to the Eagles' All-American success in the third day of the 2023 NCAA DII Swimming and Diving Championships.

Kyla Blakemore placed sixth in the 100-yard backstroke prelims in 54.65 to set a new personal record in the event. Her time allowed her to compete in the championship heat of the finals where she secured the title of All-American with a 54.40 finals time and fourth-place finish.

Asger Hartvig competed in the men's 100-yard breaststroke and placed 16th in 54.41 seconds. Hartvig's time allowed him to race in the consolation heat for the finals where he finished eleventh in nation with a time of 53.77. His efforts also set a new school record. Andrei Roman held the record since 2017 at 54.74 before Hartvig's swim earlier today. 

Rachel Peden finished 28th in the women's 500-yard freestyle relay preliminary event in 5:00.37.

Carson-Newman women's swim competed in the second heat of the 200-yard freestyle relay this evening. Kennadi King, Natalia Amano, Lily Parr, and Manon Compagner finished ninth in the nation with a 1:33.04 finals time.

At the end of the third day of competition, the Carson-Newman women's swim is ranked eighth, and the men sit in 17th place.

Tomorrow morning, Manon Compagner will race in the fifth heat of the women's 100-yard freestyle prelims. Hobson Stelling will take part in the men's preliminaries for the event. Kyla Blakemore will take on the women's 200-yard backstroke prelims for the Eagles, and Rachel Peden will swim the 1,650-yard freestyle race. 

The fourth and final day of NCAA DII Swimming and Diving Championships will begin Saturday, Mar. 11 at 10:00 a.m. Results will be available on the meet mobile app. Stay up to date on cneagles.com.
