Ben Young Interview

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.- Carson-Newman swim is back in action on Thursday, Jan. 19 against Division I University of Tennessee before hosting Senior Night against Mars Hill University Friday, Jan. 20.

After another long break in action, the Eagles are headed to Knoxville, Tenn. to compete against the University of Tennessee on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 4:00 p.m.

"We stayed here for the majority of winter break, but then sent them home for a little bit. The team came back on Jan. 2, and we have been going hard ever since. They've put in a lot of incredible work over the last several weeks. We've just been taking one step in the right direction every day," Carson-Newman head swim coach Ben Young said.

The Tennessee Invitational earlier this year proved successful for the Eagles in terms of national qualifying times and personal bests. Manon Compagner broke the Carson-Newman swimming record for the 100-yard freestyle in the prelims with a time of 49.47. Compagner also helped the Eagles secure a national cut and break the school record in the 400-yard freestyle relay with Kennadi King, Antonia Sanint, and Lily Parr. The women finished with a final time of 3:23.35.

"We are proud of the team and how hard they have been working. They've done a good job to rise to the occasion and put in a lot of work in the last little bit. UT is a great program, and they are incredible on so many levels. It's always nice to go there, race them, and see who is swimming at their level. We have a lot of people on the team who can get up and compete with them. It's an opportunity for our team to grow as swimmers," Young said.

Carson-Newman seniors will be recognized on Friday night at 5:55 p.m. back in the Maddox Pool as the Eagles face off against Mars Hill University.

"The seniors have been amazing. They've built a relationship with the school and really put a stamp on this program. They've continued to raise the bar, and they will be heavily missed. All of our seniors are on the women's side this year, and they have been fantastic. Even outside of the program, what they've meant to the institution and to this team is a testament to who they are as people and who they will continue to be moving forward in life," Young said.

The Eagles head to Knoxville, Tenn. for a dual meet with UT this Thursday, Jan. 19. The meet will begin at 4:00 p.m. On Friday, Jan. 20, Carson-Newman swim's seniors will be honored prior to the meeting with Mars Hill at 6:00 p.m.
