Hartvig garners CSC Academic All-America honors

AUSTIN, Texas- Carson-Newman men's swimmer Asger Hartvig joined the 2022-2023 Second Team Academic All-America men's swimming and diving team, selected by the College Sports Communicators.

Asger Hartvig is a sophomore for the Eagles. Hartvig is majoring in mathematics and holds a 4.0 cumulative GPA. Earlier this season, Hartvig was honored on the 2022-23 CSC Academic All-District team on Tuesday, Feb. 28. He now becomes one of two Eagles to be laureled with Academic All-America honors for the 2022-2023 season, joining Rachel Peden for Carson-Newman women's swim.

Aside from his academic excellence, Hartvig was a selection for the 2023 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. He swam in the men's 100-yard breaststroke because of his qualifying time of 54.44 seconds at the South Atlantic Conference Swimming Championships where he placed second in the event.

During the NCAA DII championships, Hartvig competed in the men's 100-yard breaststroke prelims and placed 16th in 54.41. Hartvig's time allowed him to race in the consolation heat for the finals where he finished eleventh in nation with a time of 53.77. His efforts set a new school record for the Eagles and earned him Honorable Mention All-American honors to end his sophomore season.

Hartvig has two first-place finishes on the season and stood on the podium a slew of times throughout the year. He competed well against high levels of competition, placing fourth in the 200-yard IM against Georgia Tech in 1:59.66 and fifth in both the 100-yard breaststroke (57.10) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:10.49) against the University of Tennessee.

Carson-Newman men's swim celebrates another accolade as Asger Hartvig earns Second Team Academic All-America honors this afternoon, Mar. 21. The Eagles concluded the 2022-2023 season ranked second in the SAC and 16th in the nation.
