Head Coach Jon Parker Adds Three Impressive Talents

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – First-year head coach Jon Parker announces the addition of three new athletes in the men's tennis program.

Matthew Saunders (Transfer from Tiffin University)

Making his appearance with the Eagles in the spring season, Saunders has made his presence felt. Playing in both the No. 5 and 6 singles spots, Saunders has posted a 3-1 mark in his short time with Carson-Newman.

Last season with Tiffin, Saunders tallied a 14-1 record in singles and 3-3 in doubles. Saunders had experience in crunch time, earning the decisive point in matches against Walsh, Findlay, and Charleston.

In his time at Tiffin, Saunders was a valuable part of two Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship teams in 2021-22 and 2022-23.

Already leaving his mark on the spring season, Saunders will continue to be a valuable piece for the Eagles.

Boris Jordanov (IMG Academy)

Jordunov will head to Mossy Creek for the fall season after he concludes his time with IMG Academy. A native of Brentwood, Tennessee, Jordanov will stay in the Volunteer State for his collegiate tennis career.

Jordanov's mother, Jennifer Jordanov, competed for the Eagles' cross-country team during her time at Carson-Newman. Due to his family ties at C-N and his appreciation for the school, Jordanov chose Carson-Newman over Piedmont University.

Heading to Mossy Creek for the fall season, Jordanov looks to be a big part of the Eagles' team next year.

Aiden Standefer (Silverdale Baptist Academy)

Standefer will join the Eagles following his senior year at Silverdale Baptist Academy. Standefer hails from Hixson, Tennessee, and his decision to come to C-N involved the coaches and training staff and the Christ-centered approach the university provides.

A distinguished National Honor Society and Beta Club member, Standefer plans on continuing his high academic stature as a biology major at Carson-Newman.

Standefer earned All-District honors in all three seasons and All-Region once on the court. He helped Silverdale to three district championships and region runner-up in two of his seasons on the court.

Standefer's records on the court are equally impressive, with a 29-3 mark in his past two seasons at Silverdale. C-N won a tough recruiting battle, beating out the likes of Cedarville, Milligan, and Johnson University.

With three impressive talents joining the fold, the Eagles continue to trend upward under first-year head coach Jon Parker.
