BELMONT, NC – The Carson-Newman men's tennis team put forth an impressive effort this weekend at the Belmont Abbey Invitational as they navigate through the early fall season.
The Eagles kicked off the three-day event Thursday morning against Mount Olive, taking four of five matches overall. The duos of Marnix Van Dalen and Lars Hordijk and Marc Janse and Yehor Opanasenko combined to sweep the Trojans in doubles. Gjorgji Jankulovski and Paul Gayk secured singles wins, while Yehor Opanasenko fell in a tight match.

The Eagles returned to the court later that afternoon to take on the hosts, Belmont Abbey. The Eagles split in doubles play, as Marc Janse and Paul Gayk dominated, while Yehor Opanasenko and Gjorgji Jankulovski dropped a tightly contested match. The Eagles swept the Crusades in singles play, with Marc Janse, Marnix Van Dalen, and Lars Hordijk all securing wins.

On Friday morning, the Eagles returned to face Belmont Abbey for a second time and produced similar success, taking four of five matches. C-N's doubles pairings swept the two doubles matches, taking two of three in singles.

On Friday afternoon, the men took the momentum into matches with North Greenville, taking all five matches in dominant fashion. Yehor Opanasenko and Paul Gayk cruised to a doubles victory, while Gjorgii Jankulovski and Marc Janse staved off the Crusaders' pairing of Lucas Cardoso and Will Hernandez. Marnix Van Dalen and Marc Janse dominated singles play, while Lars Hordijk earned a hard-fought three-set win.
