CHARLESTON, W.Va. – After a big win over Union on Thursday, Carson-Newman (1-1) heads to West Virginia to take on the University of Charleston (2-0) for the first time in program history.
Coming into Saturday's matchup, the Golden Eagles boast an undefeated record and have only dropped one point through two matches. Charleston surges into 2024 after advancing to the Sweet 16 of the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
While a formidable test, the Eagles come into Saturday's match after an impressive outing against Union College, taking eight of the nine total matches. In its first match against Walsh University, Charleston accomplished the same feat.
The Golden Eagles have made tweaks and changes to their lineups early in the season, but the main consistency is Jorge Perez Diaz in No. 1 singles. In his two matches, Perez Diaz has surrendered just one set. This will be another formidable foe for Marnix Van Dalen, who has been battle-tested in his first two matches of 2024.
In doubles, Charleston has also tried different lineup combinations, but C-N has had consistency in that department early on, trusting Van Dalen and Lars Hordijk to take the No. 1 spot.
Putting together a complete performance in an impressive win on Thursday, the Eagles will look to continue to excel against a talented Charleston squad on Saturday afternoon.
