JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – After being ranked No. 8 in the Women's Basketball Division II preseason media poll sponsored by D2SIDA, Carson-Newman moved up one spot to No. 7 in the latest poll, after starting the 2024-25 season with a pair of blowout victories in the SAC/Peach Belt Challenge.
The Lady Eagles have started the season 2-0 for the seventh time in the past eight seasons, defeating Lander and USC Aiken in convincing fashion this past weekend.
The offense was on full display in both wins to start the year. It's the first time since 2017-18 that Carson-Newman has scored 90 points or more in its first two games and just the third time its happened in program history. Carson-Newman's 96.5 points per game ranks second-most nationally after the opening week of play.
Carson-Newman remains the highest ranked team in the Southeast region and is one of just two teams that are ranked. Georgia Southwestern, the reigning regional champions check in at 20.
Columbus State is the first team just outside the top 25, receiving 17 votes while Anderson is the only other South Atlantic Conference team listed receiving one vote.
The previously ranked number one team Minnesota State-Mankato lost, allowing Texas Woman's, Grand Valley State and Gannon to move into the top three.
The Lady Eagles are back on the floor when they serve as host to Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m. Coverage on the Eagle Sports Network begins at 1:45 with the AEC Countdown to Tipoff on MIX 105.5 (WSEV-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live.
