Under first-year head coach Johnette Walker, Newberry has gone 5-9 so far this season and has won four of their ten league games. The Wolves currently sit in a tie for eighth place in the conference standings.
Newberry returned from the holiday break on Wednesday against Anderson, suffering a 73-45 road loss to the Trojans. The Wolves enter the contest having lost back-to-back games in conference play. Three of their four SAC wins have come at home versus Lincoln Memorial, Lenoir-Rhyne and Emory & Henry. The Wolves are 3-2 at Eleazer Arena this season.
Jess Tomkins is the SAC's fourth-best scorer at 16.0 points per game while also shooting the second-best field-goal percentage in the league as well at 57.4%. She has 27 blocks, the second-most in the league and 18th most in the country this season. No other Newberry players average more than seven points per game for an offense that averages a league-worst 54 points per contest.
The Wolves have not been efficient from the field, making a league-worst 37 percent of their shots. They also rank dead last in the SAC in turnovers per game at 21.7. Johnette Walker's team hangs their hat on defense. They allow just 61 points per game and have forced teams to shoot 37.5 percent from the field.
