Women's Basketball honored by WBCA

ATLANTA - For the second consecutive year, Carson-Newman women's basketball earned a special mention academic honor, as announced earlier today by The Women's Basketball Coaches Association.

The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2023-24 season is the 29th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.

Teams having a 3.0 combined GPA and qualifying for consideration in their respective divisions are also listed as special mentions.

Head coach Mike Mincey's team recorded a 3.53 GPA during the 2023-24 academic year.

This honor adds to C-N's academic honors this season. Braelyn Wykle (Greeneville, Tenn.) was named a CSC (College Sports Communicators) Academic All-American for the second time in her career. While, Makayla Alvey (Dandridge, Tenn.), Campbell Penland (Sevierville, Tenn.) and Tori Rutherford (Rutledge, Tenn.) were named CSC Academic All-District for their efforts in the classroom, joining Wykle.
