C-N mourns passing of Hall of Famer, former women’s basketball coach Lewis Bivens

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Legendary Carson-Newman head women's basketball coach and Hall of Famer Lewis Bivens passed away Wednesday at the age of 79. 

Bivens lead the Lady Eagles to 216 victories between 1979-1987 for a .742 winning percentage. His teams made five NAIA Tournament appearances and won six conference championships. He recruited and coached six All-Americans while at Carson-Newman.

After his successful stint at C-N, Bivens moved on to Middle Tennessee State University.  Bivens coached the Lady Raiders from 1987 to 1997, winning four regular-season Ohio Valley Conference titles and taking two teams to the NCAA Tournament (1988, 1996).

Bivens went 183-103 in his 10 seasons with MTSU.

He was inducted into the Carson-Newman athletics hall of fame in 2016.
