Hall leads Eagle quartet at Tennessee State Amateur Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Carson-Newman senior Andrew Hall (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished fifth at the 100th Annual Tennessee State Amateur Championship with a five-under 275 at Holston Hill Country Club in Knoxville.

Four competitors in the State Am had Carson-Newman ties as Hall was joined by fellow teammate Jace Devault (Bluff City, Tenn.), incoming freshman Jake Headrick (Maryville, Tenn.) and Eagle alum Tanner Davis.

Hall, a member of the South Atlantic Conference's second-team last season, carded a final round 71 Friday afternoon to follow up three consecutive rounds in the 60s. Thursday's third round score of 67 was Hall's lowest round of the Championship.

Headrick shot the low score of the final round with a 65 on Friday. The Maryville High School graduate's final tournament before competing for Carson-Newman was completed with a final score of one-over 281 and in a tie for 18th.

Davis, a 2006 Carson-Newman graduate, finished the tournament at five-over 285 after shooting a 74 during the final round. His low round of the tournament came during Tuesday's first round after he shot a 68.

Davis finished his Carson-Newman career as one of the most decorated Eagles in the program's history. He won the individual competition and helped lead C-N to firs-place at the 2004 SAC Championships. In 2004, he was named to the SAC's first-team and he was also a three-time member of the league's second-team.

Devault fired a final round 72 to finish the Championships tied for 44th. It was his second score of 72 of the tournament. He shot his low score of 69 on Wednesday during the second round.

Incoming freshman Grant Bodie (Knoxville, Tenn.) missed the cut after shooting a  13-over during the tournament's first two rounds.

Peyton Sliger won the Championships with a finals core of 11-under.

The Eagles open the 2015 season on the road at the Kiawah Island Invitational at Osprey Point Country Club in Kiawah, S.C. on September 14th and 15th
