Hall, Reese shoot even par as Eagles sit seventh at Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Senior Andrew Hall (Knoxville, Tenn.) and junior Dalton Reese (Warrenton, Ga.) each shot even par 72s to lead the Carson-Newman men's golf team during the first round of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate hosted by Tennessee Tech at Sevierville Golf Club's River Course.

As a team, the Eagles shot a four-over 282 and are 10 shots off the lead after the first 18 holes of competition; C-N is currently in seventh-place as the only Division II team in the field.

Hall and Reese each shot their lowest first round score of the spring season with the even par 72. Hall tied for the tournament lead with 16 pars in 18 holes of play and the senior led C-N in par-four scoring with a stroke average of 4.00. Reese registered three birdies and led the Eagles in par-five scoring by averaging 4.50 strokes on the course. The duo is tied for 16th.

Senior Jace Devault (Bluff City, Tenn.) shot an one-over 73 and is tied for 25th. Devault led the team in par-three scoring with an average of 2.75 strokes on the River Course's shortest holes. The senior tied for the Carson-Newman lead with three birdies. Devault's 73 is his lowest score since the first round of the McDonough Cup in October.

Nicklaus Kennedy (London, Ontario, Canada) carded a three-over 75 during his first round of play at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate. Kennedy tied with Hall and Devault to tie for the team lead with three birdies. The Canadian is tied for 38th.

Freshman Jake Headrick (Maryville, Tenn.) shot a four-over 76 and is tied for 44th,while fellow freshman Will Hurt (Powell, Tenn.) finished his first collegiate round of golf with an 11-over 83 Hurt is tied for 74th.

Murray State's Preston French and Blake Smith from Western Kentucky are tied for the tournament lead after shooting a five-under 67 during the first 18 holes; Oakland's Jake Kneen is third and a stroke off the leaders. Murray State has a six-shot lead over Oakland and Western Kentucky in the team competition.

The second 18-holes of Tennessee Tech's Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. at the Sevierville Golf Club's River Course with a shotgun start.
