Eagles finish seventh at NCAA South/Southeast Regional Preview

HOWIE-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The 21st-ranked Carson-Newman men's golf team held steady in seventh place as the Eagles completed Tuesday's final round at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Preview at Mission Inn Resort & Golf Club in Howie-in-the-Hills, Fla. in a field loaded with the nation's top teams.

Senior Andrew Hall (Knoxville, Tenn.) tied for 19th to lead the team.

Hall shot a final round 77, which tied for team's second-lowest score of the day. Hall opened the day five-over through his first six holes but countered with a birdie and 10 pars to finish the day at five-over. The senior ended the event at 12-over 228. Hall tied for ninth in the field for scoring on par-fours with an average of 4.20 strokes.

Junior Dalton Reese (Warrenton, Ga.) carded Carson-Newman's low round of the day with a 73 to propel from 55th to a tie for 29th on the leaderboard. Reese recorded four birdies on the day and opened and closed his round with a score of one-under on a hole. The junior tied for seventh on par-four scoring with a five-over score. He finished the tournament at 14-over 230.

Freshman Jake Headrick (Maryville, Tenn.) fell from 18th to 35th on the leaderboard after shooting an 81 during his Tuesday round. Back-to-back double bogeys on the first and second holes derailed the freshman's round.

Senior Jace Devault (Bluff City, Tenn.) countered seven holes that he scored either a bogey or double bogey with three birdies to shoot a final round 77 and finished the tournament at 16-over 231. Devault tied for fifth amongst the field in par-five scoring and finishing with a score of five-under.

Freshman Grant Bodie (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished the tournament at 26-over 242 after shooting a final round 83; he tied for 67th. Bodie recorded one of the two C-N eagles on the par-five first hole.

Seventh-ranked Lynn won the team event by two strokes over Chico State; St. Leo, Nova Southeastern and Florida Southern rounded out the top-five. Lee Gearhart from Chico State won individual medalist honors by a stroke over his teammate Alistar Docherty. Lynn's Manuel Torres placed third, while St. Leo's Hugo Bernard and Martin Cancino from Lynn were the rest of the top-five.

The Eagles will be off for three weeks before returning to action in the Volunteer State at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate hosted by Tennessee Tech at the Sevierville Golf Club's River Course on March 20-22.
