Eagles debut third in NCAA Southeast regional rankings

INDIANAPOLIS – The 17th-ranked Carson-Newman men's golf team debuted third in the NCAA Division II Southeast regional rankings that were released by the NCAA on Friday afternoon.

The Eagles are coming off an eight stroke victory at the Tennessee River Ramble for their second team victory of the season, while junior Dalton Reese (Warrenton, Ga.) registered his first career individual medalist accolade at the event at Tennessee National Golf Club in Loudon, Tenn.

These rankings are the official rankings used for NCAA postseason qualification. A total of 10 teams from the Southeast Region (conference tournament champions from the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and the Peach Belt Conference and seven at-large teams) will advance to the South/Southeast Super Regional on May 2-4 at Mission Inn Resort and Golf Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

C-N last participated in the South/Southeast Super Regional in 2014 when the Eagles won the SAC Men's Golf Championships and automatically qualified. Since 2000, Carson-Newman also participated in 2004 and 2012.

Carson-Newman is the top ranked team from the South Atlantic Conference, while instate rival Lincoln Memorial is sixth and Newberry rounded out the top-10 in 10th. Flagler is the top-ranked team in the region, while South Carolina – Aiken is second.
