Hall leads second-place Eagles after first day of UNG Fall Invitational

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Carson-Newman senior Andrew Hall (Knoxville, Tenn.) continued his torrid stretch of golf with two more below-par rounds of golf to sit in a tie for first at the University of North Georgia Fall Invitational at Achasta Golf Club in Dahlonega, Ga., while the Eagles are in second-place in the team competition.

After leading the tournament after the first round, Carson-Newman dropped three strokes during the second round, but trails the Lee Flames by five strokes.

"We played two very solid round today. It always feels good when you throw out scores like 73 and 74. We are a few shots back so we will have to lay aggressive tomorrow. Andrew Hall showed solid senior leadership and played well today," coach Randy Wylie said.

Hall carded rounds of 70 and 66 during Monday's two rounds. The senior recorded the second-most birdies on the day with 10 and the ninth-most pars with 24. The Knoxville-native now has five-straight rounds of golf that finished below-par. Hall is tied for first at eight-under.

Senior Jace Devault (Bluff City, Tenn.) fired the team's second-lowest round of the day with a first round 69 and followed that up with a one-over 73 for two-under total of 142 and is tied for 13th. Devault has the Eagles' second-lowest score on par-fives as he has shot a collective four-under and averages 4.50 strokes on the course's hardest holes.

Freshman Jake Headrick (Maryville, Tenn.) and junior Dalton Reese (Warrenton, Ga.) are both tied for 17th after identical rounds of 72 and 71 on Monday. The duo are tied at one-under. Headrick is one-under on par-fours and averages 3.95 strokes per hole. Reese has carded 24 pars, which ties him with Hall.

Reigning individual medalist Nicklaus Kennedy (London, Ontario, Canada) is tied for 32nd after firing a second round even-par 72, which followed up a first round 74. The senior is tied with Devault for second on the team with eight birdies on Monday.

Lee leads Carson-Newman by five strokes and the Eagles are ahead of West Georgia by one stroke. Hall is tied with Lee's Peyton Sliger for the tournament lead and those two will play in the same grouping on Tuesday. The Flames' Taylor Davis is third at six-under.
