Hall caps best tournament in SAC history for second-place finish at Saint Leo’s Invitational

DADE CITY, Fla. – Senior Andrew Hall (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished the best 54-hole tournament in South Atlantic Conference history carding a final round 69 at the Saint Leo's Invitational at Lake Jovita Country Club to finish in a two-way tie for second-place.

Hall fired rounds of 68, 65 and 69 during his three rounds at Lake Jovita to best the previous low-score of Catawba's Todd Sapere who shot a 204 at the Camp Lejeune Invitational in 1997.

The Carson-Newman men's golf team finished the tournament in a tie for seventh with third-ranked South Carolina Aiken and ahead of ranked foes Limestone and Columbus State.

"I'm very proud of the way the Eagles played today and all week. Andrew Hall played exceptionally well and tied for second against a great field. I'm really pleased to finish even with USC Aiken, who is a perennial powerhouse in Division-II golf. We will keep getting better and keep grinding," coach Randy Wylie said.

Hall used four birdies and just one bogie for his final round total of 69. The senior carded three birdies on the back-nine to finish one stroke off the tournament winner. The Knoxville-native recorded 18 birdies during his three rounds.

Senior Jace Devault (Bluff City, Tenn.) fired his second-consecutive round of 73, a round that included three birdies, to shoot an even-par 216 over the course of the three rounds and finished in a tie for 29th. The senior recorded 14 birdies over the entirety of the event.

Freshman Jake Headrick (Maryville, Tenn.) shot a five-over 77 on Tuesday to complete his best finish in his young career with a tie for 32nd. Headrick shot two rounds of even-par or better on Monday and his 77 capped off a combined one-over 217.

Junior Dalton Reese's (Warrenton, Ga.) first tournament of his junior campaign ended with a two-over 74 and in a tie for 38th. The junior recorded 39 pars during the three rounds, which was tied for the second-most at the event.

Senior Nicklaus Kennedy (London, Ontario, Canada) shot his tournament low round on Tuesday with a final round 73 in a round that featured three birdies. The Canadian finished seven-over on the leaderboard and in a tie for 56th.

Barry won the tournament by three strokes over North Alabama; host Saint Leo finished five strokes off the Bucs to finish in third. Lynn's Mateo Gomez won the tournament by one stroke over Hall, North Alabama's Michael Peter and Barry's Mario Beltran.

The Eagles' next tournament is next week on Oct. 5th and 6th at the North Georgia Fall Invitational; Kennedy is the reigning individual medalist at the event after winning the 2014 edition in a four-hole playoff.
