Two Eagles in top-10, team second at State Farm Intercollegiate

TAZEWELL, Tenn. – After Monday's first two rounds of the State Farm Intercollegiate at Woodlake Golf Club in Tazewell, Tenn., the Carson-Newman men's golf team is two strokes off the lead and is second on the leaderboard.

Senior Andrew Hall (Knoxville, Tenn.) is in third-place at five-under and senior Jace Devault (Bluff City, Tenn.) is at even-par and in a tie for 10th-place.

The Eagles' team had the second-best score of any team in the tournament on par-threes at two-over and led the field on par-fours at seven-over.

"We played an ok first round and a really strong second round today. The guys did a nice job still throwing out rounds like 74, which is a good sign. We will need to play really well to beat LMU on their own course tomorrow," coach Randy Wylie said.

Hall shot a round outside of the 60s for the first time in seven rounds with an even-par 72 during the first round, but the senior rebounded with a five-under 67 during the afternoon round for his third-place standing. Hall finished one-under on the day on par-threes, which was tied for the third-lowest average. The senior carded the third-most birdies with nine.

Devault finished at even-par after scores of 73 and 71 on Monday and is tied for 10th. The senior finished even-par on par-threes and four-under on par-fives on the day and recorded seven birdies.

Freshman Jake Headrick (Maryville, Tenn.) is tied with Reese at one-over 145 for 17th. Headrick had the Eagles' third-lowest average on par-fours by finishing at one-over during the 36 holes and averaged 4.05 strokes.

Freshmen Alex Hutson (Newport, Tenn.) and Anthony Marcinelli (Knoxville, Tenn.) and senior Nathan Hodge (Jefferson City, Tenn.) all competed as individuals. Hutson and Marcinelli are tied for 30th and Hodge is tied for 62nd on the leaderboard.

Hutson shot an one-under 71 during the first round and a 77 during the second round for a four-over 148 two-round total. Hutson is tied for the tournament lead on par-threes with a score of two-under and 2.75 average stroke.

Marcinelli turned in rounds of 75 and 73 for his four-over 148. The Knoxville-native recorded Carson-Newman's lone eagle on Monday in his collegiate debut.

Hodge carded rounds of 78 and 80 in his senior year debut. The Jefferson City-native played par-fives at two-under and averaged 2.75 strokes. His two rounds included five birdies and 19 pars.

Host Lincoln Memorial leads Carson-Newman by two strokes and Queens (N.C.) is third. Tusculum's Brad Hawkins leads the field by two strokes over LMU's Sam Broadhurst and Hall is six strokes off Hawkins.
