Eagles rally to defeat Georgetown (Ky.), 5-4

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The Carson-Newman men's tennis team claimed a 5-4 victory over Georgetown (Ky.) on Saturday afternoon at the Carson-Newman Tennis Complex in its final home match of the regular season.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 5-15 on the season.

The match went down to the wire, as sophomore Paul Birdsong (Woodstock, Ga.) won a thrilling three-set match at No. 5 singles to secure the win. Birdsong defeated Zach Thomas 6-1, 3-6 and 6-4.

The Eagles got off to a good start with two doubles victories by sophomore Dusty Davis (Morristown, Tenn.) and senior Chris Acker (Knoxville, Tenn.) at No. 2 doubles and sophomore Derek Holdway (Woodstock, Ga.) and sophomore Dalton Moore (Gate City, Va.) at No. 3 doubles.

After dropping singles matches at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 position, the Eagles finished strong with singles wins by senior Adriano Kira (Brazil) at No. 4 singles and Moore at No. 6 singles prior to Birdsong finishing his match.

The Eagles return to the court on Monday at Covenant. Match time is set for 2:30 p.m.
