Strong morning pushes Eagles in opening rounds of UNG Invitational

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – A mixed +10 performance for Carson-Newman through the first two rounds placed the Eagles at sixth place on the team leaderboard at the end of the first day of competition for the University of North Georgia Fall Invitational.

The team finished the morning strong with a one-under 287, but struggled to keep the momentum in the second round, concluding the day shooting 299 for a team total of 586.

"It was a tough afternoon for us after we played a really good round in the morning," head coach Randy Wylie analyzed of his team's outing.

Sophomore Tom Forster and freshman Tyler Parker were the only two Eagles in the top 10 after the morning round. Forster tied for second at three-under while Parker was in a six-way tie for seventh with a 1-under 71. Into the second round of play, Forster had the highest placing on the leaderboard at a 13th place tie, shooting a 75 to finish with a 144. Parker fell to 36th after an eight-over showing for a 151 over two rounds.

Freshman Jackson Tyler made an astounding leap from 36th to 22nd on the leaderboard through two rounds. The first round saw him shooting a 3-over 75 before a -1 second round, making him the only Eagle to beat par in the afternoon.

Junior Anthony Marcinelli was 3-over through two rounds with a 72 and 75. His showing was good enough for a tie at 25th.

Coming off of an 11th place showing in the team's previous tournament, Jake Headrick finished out the first day at Dahlonega with a 154, shooting 4+ and 6+ in the opening rounds.

Grant Bodie made his season debut for C-N as an individual at the event. The junior ended the first 36-holes at the middle of the pack for individuals, with a 78 and 81 to place at a tie for 67th.

Through the first day of competition, Lander University took the top spot with a 4-under 572.

"We are hoping for a big bounce back tomorrow and a strong finished," Wylie said.

The Invitational will conclude with a round of 18 on Tuesday at Achasta Golf Club. The final round will begin at 9 a.m.
