Two-round score of 143 qualifies Forster for Sunday final at St. Andrews Links Trophy

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – Through the first 36 holes of the St. Andrews Links Trophy, Carson-Newman men's golfer Tom Forster (Oundle, England) sits in a tie for 34th at the end of Saturday, qualifying him to take part in Sunday's final 36 holes of play.

One of the most prestigious amateur events in golf, the St. Andrews Links Trophy began in 1989 and has included golfers who would go on to play in the PGA and European Tours such as Ernie Els, Geoff Ogilvy, Justin Rose and Rory McIlroy. The event allows golfers to play at "The Home of Golf" in a 72 hole tournament. Participants who are in the top 40 out of 144 competitors after the first two rounds move on to Sunday.

Forster is currently eight strokes out of the lead with a 143 total.

In Friday's first round played on the New Course, Forster shot an even 71. The front nine saw the Eagle card a trio of bogeys with two birdies before a pair of birdies and a bogey put him back on track in the later portion.

Much of the same happened on the Old Course for Forster on Saturday. A couple of birdies and a bogey left him at one-under in the front nine before two bogeys and a birdie moved him to a shot over par in the back nine. He recorded an even 72 in the second round.

The final 36 holes will be played on the Old Course on Sunday. Forster is set to tee off for the third round at 7:24 a.m. GMT+1 with a fourth round tee time of 12:24 p.m. GMT+1. Live scoring will be provided through the St. Andrews Links.
