ORLANDO, Fla. – Despite finishing at eighth-place after day one, the Eagles made a major turnaround for a third-place finish with Jake Headrick winning the tournament at the McDonough Cup on Tuesday.

The team shot an 885 total with a team round of 281 on Tuesday to finish at +21 for the tournament. Every Eagle improved their shooting by at least three strokes on the day. This marks their best finish at the event.

"Great bounce back for the Eagles today," head coach Randy Wylie said. "We shot the low team round of 15 better than anyone in the field.

"This is one of the best victories in the history of Carson-Newman golf."

Headrick shot a 5-under round of 67 on Tuesday to conclude with a 221 total, taking the victory as he moved up from fourth-place after Monday. The win marks the junior's first tournament win since the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate last season for his second win with the Eagles.

"Jake's outing today featured zero bogeys and five birdies," Wylie mentioned.

Tom Forster had a much-improved final round at -3 after shooting above par through the first two rounds. He landed at ninth on the leaderboard.

Alex Hutson moved to 27^th on the leaderboard by the end of the event after a round of 73 on Tuesday. He had a total of 226.

Jackson Tyler was +14 overall at Orlando. His final round of 74 was good enough to push him to 230 for a spot at 46^th.

Anthony Marcinelli shaved six strokes off of his second round score of 78. His final round of 72 propelled him to 54^th on the leaderboard, making a substantial jump from 74^th at the end of Monday.

Newberry's Harry Bolton held the lead after the first two rounds but was surpassed by Headrick, forcing him into second place with a Tuesday score of 72 for a 212 overall score of -4. Barry Babbitt of Rollins moved into the third spot on the leaderboard with a final round of 73 for an -3 score of 213.

Newberry kept the top spot at the end of the tournament with an 880 overall score, +16 for the three rounds. Rollins took second with a total score of 882.

The Eagles now await the start of their spring schedule that will kick off in February at the 2018 Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate.
