NCAA Regional Selections

INDIANAPOLIS – The Carson-Newman men's golf team retained its fifth spot in the most recent NCAA regional rankings, as released on Friday evening.

A field of 80 teams and 32 individual competitors makes up the group that has been selected to take part in the 2018 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships' regional round. These tournaments will help determine who will make the trek to Muscle Shoal, Alabama to play for the national championship at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at the Shoals, Fighting Joe Course in late May.

The Eagles, ranked 20th in this week's Golfstat rankings, are in the middle of a Southeast Region that is loaded with talent as eight of the 10 teams in the region are currently in Golfstat's top-25. Top-seeded USC-Aiken sits at seventh, nationally, followed closely by a Newberry squad that is second in the region and eighth in the nation. The top-three in the region is rounded out by No. 11 Columbus State. Limestone is one spot above C-N at fourth in the region.

Fellow South Atlantic Conference member Lincoln Memorial is ranked one spot lower than head coach Randy Wylie's team in the region. The final portion is made up of Lander, Young Harris, North Greenville and Georgia Southwestern.

The Southeast Region will be competing alongside the South Region, a group that is also filled to the brim with talent. West Florida, the top team in the nation, sits at the helm of the region followed by Florida Southern and Nova Southeastern, the No. 2 and 3 teams in the nation and region, respectively.

This regional has become known for producing championship-winning teams. In the past 18 years, 16 eventual champions have emerged from this dual-threat regional pairing.

Carson-Newman made its way into the regional tournament for the third-straight season after receiving an automatic bid with its second-straight South Atlantic Conference title back in early April. It was the program's fourth conference crown.

The South/Southeast Regional kicks off on May 7 at the Rock Barn Country Club in Conover, North Carolina. The event will span across three days.
