Marcinelli lauded first team Academic All-American

CoSIDA Division II Academic All-American At-Large Release

AUSTIN, Texas – Thanks to his achievements in the classroom, Anthony Marcinelli (Knoxville, Tenn.) has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II At-Large first team, as announced on Wednesday.

Marcinelli is one of 12 male student-athletes on the At-Large teams to boast a 4.00 GPA. The Men's At-Large First Team produced a 3.95 GPA alone with six recipients holding a 4.00 GPA. He is the first C-N men's golfer in the Division II era to receive the honor from CoSIDA. He is one of five student-athletes who has represented the Eagles on Academic All-America at-large teams in that span.

This distinction marks the third academic award for the C-N golfer this season after being named the South Atlantic Conference's Elite 20 recipient for men's golf in April before a selection to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men's At-Large Team in May that led him to be in contention for this latest honor.

A senior in the classroom, Marcinelli graduated from Carson-Newman in May with a degree in Accounting.

As a junior on the links for C-N this past season, he participated in all but one of the regular season tournaments the Eagles competed in along with appearances in the SAC Championship, where the Eagles became back-to-back conference champions, and the NCAA South/Southeast Regional.

Marcinelli was in the top 20 for four events with a 74.52 scoring average in 27 rounds of play. The conference championship saw his best showing where he posted a six-over par score that placed him at 12th in the field.

The Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2017-18 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.

The at-large program for the CoSIDA Academic All-America® program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo for both men and women; bowling, crew and field hockey for women; and volleyball and wrestling for men.
