ABERDEEN, Scotland – Through the first qualifying round at the 123rd Amateur Championship, Carson-Newman's Tom Forster (Oundle, England) sits in a tie for 22nd with a 72 on Monday.

Forster was level on 11 holes. On a Murcar Links 70 par course filled with a majority of Par 4 holes, he averaged a 4.21 score on such holes compared to 4.45 from the entire field. He was averaged 3.00 on Par 3s with a 4.00 average on Par 5s. He trails the field's leader, South Africa's Wilco Nienaber, by six holes heading into a crucial second round where the top 64 competitors on the leaderboard will move on to match play.

The Eagle started the day at one-under through the front nine with a pair of birdies and a bogey. The back nine saw Forster shoot a double bogey on 10 that was answered with a birdie on 11. Two more bogeys followed, pushing him to two shots over par on the day.
