Forster, Headrick named to All-SAC teams

ROCK HILL, S.C. – For the second consecutive year, Tom Forster (Oundle, England) and Jake Headrick (Maryville, Tenn.) have received All-South Atlantic Conference accolades, as announced by the league office on Friday.

Forster has now landed on the first team list for back-to-back years while Headrick has been tabbed a second-team member for a second-straight season. The accolade marks the third postseason nod for Headrick in his career.

The duo brings No. 20 Carson-Newman's all-time All-Conference total up to 39 since 1990, the most in the South Atlantic Conference. They hold a combined 12 top-20 performances on the season with nine coming in the top-10 and both accounting for a win each.

The league's Freshman of the Year a season ago, Forster has been the leading Eagle for a majority of the season, participating in all 23 rounds of golf that the team has played in. Through the regular season, he averaged a team-leading 72.1 score.

With six top-20 finishes to his name this season, Forster has ended up in the top-10 at five events with three of those being scores good enough for the top-five.

Forster's sophomore season was highlighted by his first career tournament win at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate where he shot a three-round score of 203, marking the second-lowest 54-hole score in South Atlantic Conference history. His win marked his lone top-three finish of the 2017-18 regular season campaign.

Forster was the top performer throughout the entire third round as he shot -13 under at the event. He was the top par 4 player with a 3.80 average, six-under on such holes. He also had the most birdies in the field through three rounds with 17.

In the most recent Golfstat play rankings, the sophomore landed at 54th in the nation.

Just 10 spots behind him in the standings is Headrick, who ended the regular season with a 72.6 scoring average. He has ended six events in the top-20 with five of those being top-10 finishes.

An All-SAC Honorable Mention a season prior to landing on the second-team last season, Headrick has landed in the top-three at the conclusion of a team-high three events this season. He was the victor at the McDonough Cup back in October with a 221 total, giving him his second tournament win for the Orange and Blue.

At the fall finale, Headrick shot a 5-under round of 67 in the final round to conclude with a 221 total, taking the victory as he moved up from his fourth-place at the conclusion of the first day. His 67 marks his lowest round score of the season. The jump he made helped the Eagles move from eighth on the first day to grab a third-place finish at the event, marking C-N's best finish at the McDonough Cup.

The junior closed out the regular season tied for second at the Tennessee River Rumble with a two-round total score of 148, also landing him on the All-Tournament team. His finish pushed him to a 72.6 shot average through the regular season.

His other top-three performance of the season came at the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate in February when he finished in a tie for second. Not far behind was Forster in a tie for fourth, placing the tandem on the event's All-Tournament team.

Forster and Headrick will be two of the Eagles making the trek to Anderson, S.C. this upcoming week to defend Carson-Newman's title at the SAC Championships. The three-day event will begin on Sunday before a champion will be crowned on Tuesday at the Cobbs Glen Country Club.
