ORLANDO, Fla. – After finishing the first round at a tie for fifth, the 16th-ranked Eagles ended the first day of the McDonough Cup at eighth on the leaderboard with a team score of 604 at the Rio Pinar Country Club.

Jake Headrick jumped out to a quick lead for C-N with a 1-under round of 71 in the morning to tie at third. By the end of Monday, he sat at fourth in the field after an afternoon round of 73 for a 144 total, even at par.

"It was a solid day for Jake Headrick," head coach Randy Wylie said. "As for the rest of the team, it was complete garbage."

The rest of the team found struggles throughout the day as the four remaining Eagles shot over par.

Sophomore Thomas Forster ended Monday at a tie for 33rd on the leaderboard with a 152 through two rounds of play. He was 5-over in the morning before shaving just two strokes off of his second round score at 75.

Making his travel team debut, Alex Hutson closed out Monday one stroke behind Forster with rounds of 78 and 75 to collect a spot at a tie for 38th at +9.

Jackson Tyler was 12-over on the day with a 156 total at 63rd. He shot a round of 77 in the morning before going +7 in the second round.

Rounding out the Eagles scoring was Anthony Marcinelli, tying at 74th. He compiled a 160 score through rounds of 82 and 78.

"We played like a team that is not very well coached," Wylie mentioned. "I expect much better from everyone tomorrow, including myself."

Spencer Skiff and Harry Bolton, both from Newberry, and Barry Babbitt of Rollins all tied for first at the conclusion of Monday. They were the only ones to finish under par with 4-over outings of 140 through the opening two rounds.

Newberry leads the pack at +2 with a total of 578. Rollins and Mount Olive follow behind the Wolves with scores of 585 and 593, respectively.

The final day of competition at the Rio Pinar Country Club begins at 7:50 a.m. Tuesday.
