Eagles make moves in Southeast Region, GCAA lists

NCAA Regional Rankings

Bushnell Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll

INDIANAPOLIS – Carson-Newman made a one spot drop down in the latest edition of the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Rankings as released on Friday morning.

The rankings will help build the entire field for the Super Regional tournaments to be played at the beginning of May to open the national championships.

Carson-Newman, now sitting at 18th in the nation according to the latest Bushnell Golfweek Division II Coaches' poll that was released by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) on Friday morning, sits in the middle of its month-long hiatus before hitting the links for the NCAA Division II Men's Golf South/Southeast Regional.

C-N also possesses a 21st national ranking in Golfstat's list which was released on Wednesday.

Of the other teams in the GCAA rankings, seven also currently hold spots in the Southeast regional standings. No. 8 USC Aiken is the top team in the region followed by No. 7 Newberry and No. 10 Columbus State rounding out the top-three. No. 9 Limestone overtakes C-N at the No. 4 spot in the region.

West Florida still sits as the top team in the GCAA Rankings and are the top-seed in the South Region. The rest of the top-three – Florida Southern and Nova Southeastern – also hail from the South Region and will most likely be competing against the Eagles in the South/Southeast Regional.

The Eagles received an automatic bid after winning their fourth South Atlantic Conference title earlier this month, finishing the event with an eight-stroke lead at 14-over par. Sophomore Tom Forster (Oundle, England) was the top medalist at five-under par with a 211 total, marking his second tournament win of the season. He won two of the team's previous three tournaments.

Head coach Randy Wylie's team closed out the regular season with a win at the Tennessee River Rumble where Jake Headrick (Maryville, Tenn.) tied for second in the field. The Eagles made a 20-shot turnaround on the final day to win with a 291 total.

C-N has eight top-five finishes in nine of its events this season, all coming in succession of one another.

The South/Southeast regional that will decide the fate of the Eagles for the remainder of the NCAA Champions is set for May 7-9 at the Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Conover, N.C. The selection of teams for the regional will be made on April 27.
