Eagles crack top-25 in WGCA preseason coaches poll

CORAL SPRINGS, Florida. – The Women's Golf Coaches Association released its preseason coaches' poll with Carson-Newman ranked 24th. 

The Eagles received 48 points to crack the top 25. This is one spot higher than the Eagles were ranked in last year's preseason poll. C-N was ranked as high as 17th in the WGCA poll on two occasions last season. 

C-N is one of four South Atlantic Conference teams ranked in the WGCA preseason poll. Anderson and Limestone are in the top five at 3 and 5, respectively. Wingate is just ahead of the Eagles in the rankings, sitting at 22nd with 50 total points. Lenoir-Rhyne was the only other SAC team recognized, as it received 19 votes, the second-most among teams outside of the top 25.

Dallas Baptist University is ranked first with 311 points, while the University of Findlay is second, despite receiving the most first places votes (7). 

Coach Kelsey Hutson returns plenty of experience from last season. The Eagles return their top four golfers. Graduate student Maeve Cummins returns after a stellar 2021 season in which she competed in the NCAA DII South Regional. Her average score was a 74.9 with a low round of 70, which came in first round of the season. 

Ellie Haughton is back for her senior season after averaging a 75.5 in 21 rounds played last season. Graduate student Hannah Holland averaged a 77.3 in her 21 rounds and sophomore Caroline Nemes competed in 19 rounds with an average scored of 78.9.

C-N tees it up for the first time in 2022, this coming Monday Sep. 12 and 13th at the UIndy Invitational in Carmel, Indiana.
