DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Carson-Newman women's golf is tied for 9th place following the first two rounds of the 2022 LeeAnn Noble Memorial.
Carson-Newman finished round one in a four-way tie for 6th place with a team score of 304. The Eagles would put together another team score of 304 but fall back into a tie for 9th place after round two.
"As a team we started rough," Carson-Newman head coach Kelsey Hutson said. "The girls brought it back together to finish 304, 304. It was nice to see Madison Cline make her first eagle on a very difficult par 5. The girls are ready to fight one more day."
Graduate student Maeve Cummins led C-N in the opening round with a 2-over 74. She made four birdies in the opening round, including one on her final hole. In the second round, Cummins made three more birdies, finishing with a 3-over 75. Her two-round score of 149 is the lowest by a C-N golfer.
Senior Ellie Haughton followed in Cummins' 74, with a 3-over 75 in round one. Haughton made three birdies to start her day and made a birdie on her final hole of round one. The opening round 75 was her lowest round of the season. She matched that low round with another 75 to finish her day. The senior made just one birdie in the second round but had 14 pars.
In her first round of the season, junior Alice Thomas was C-N's third best score in round one with a 5-over 77. She recovered after making a quadruple bogey on her first hole of the day. She finished her final three holes of round one with two birdies. Thomas used her strong play throughout the rest of round one and carried that to round two where she carded a 6-over 78. The round included eight bogeys, eight pars and two birdies.
Freshman Madison Cline carded an opening round 6-over 78. Her opening round was highlighted by an eagle on hole 15, a 430-yard par 5. Cline's 78 was one stroke better than her previous best with C-N. She added six strokes to her second score for a 12-over 84. She made birdie on her second to last hole of the day.
Graduate student Hannah Holland opened her first round with a 9-over 81. She made one birdie in the first round, which also included a triple and double bogey. Holland shaved five strokes from her first to second round score to shoot a 4-over 76. She made five birdies, with three of them coming on par 5s.
Both Cummins and Haughton are in the top 25 following today's action.
C-N is only 15 strokes off 4th place heading into the final round.
