Second straight trip to Palmetto state on tap for C-N

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.- Carson-Newman travels back down to the Palmetto state for the Low Tide Intercollegiate set to be played tomorrow and Tuesday in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

The Eagles will play at the Dunes West Golf Club. The course is just over 6,000 yards and is a par 72. Tomorrow's action will be 36, before the final 18 holes on Tuesday.

C-N began the season with a solid second place finish at the Battle at Hilton Head. The Eagles finished just seven strokes behind champion Wingate.

Carson-Newman will compete in the Low Tide Intercollegiate for the third straight season. The Eagles finished in fifth place in 2021, before moving up a spot last season, finishing in fourth place. Maeve Cummins (Waringstown, Northern Ireland) and Ellie Haughton (Lincolnshire, England) both secured top five finishes to propel the Eagles to the solid team performance last season.

Cummins and Haughton will be joined this week by Ida Peterson (Copenhagen, Denmark), Caroline Nemes (Orlando, FL) and Hannah Holland (Sale Creek, Tenn.) .

Haughton began the spring season on a strong note, going 2-over par securing a career-best top three finish last week at the Battle at Hilton Head. Cummins carded rounds of 78 and 79, tying her highest rounds of the 2022-23 season.

Peterson, in her first collegiate tournament, finished tied for 7th to begin the spring season with scores of 74 and 75. The freshman was C-N second best tournament score last week.

Nemes also was a top finisher for the Eagles, finishing tied for 10th place last week. The low finish was the best in her C-N career. The sophomore has now carded four consecutive rounds of 75. Last season at this event, Nemes finished tied for 32nd, improving her score each round by at least three shots.

Holland recorded her second-best round of the season with an opening round 75 at the Battle at Hilton Head. Last spring, she carded a low round of 78 at this event, before finishing tied for 42.

The field is made up of ten teams. Those three ranked teams are No. 5 Anderson, No. 16 Lander, and No. 17 Limestone. Limestone is the defending champion. The rest of the field includes Montevallo, West Georgia, Erskine and SAC schools, Coker, Newberry, and Tusculum.
