JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson Newman women's golf travels to Carmel, Indiana for its first tournament of the fall season.
C-N will play in the UIndy Invitational at Prairie View golf course. The Eagles are familiar with this course, having played in this same tournament last fall. Prairie View is a Par 72 and is over 6,000 yards long.
It's a wonderful course," Coach Kelsey Hutson said. "Last year we were tied for 3rd and then we finished top five. It starts the season with a good pace. It's a good course for my girls, it's open, it has wide good greens. It's a good starting point for the season."
Competing for the Eagles, as a team, will be Maeve Cummins, Ellie Haughton, Ana Herrera, Hannah Holland and Caroline Nemes. All five competed in the UIndy Invitational last season. Freshman Madison Cline will compete as an individual for her first collegiate tournament.
Cummins returns after a stellar 2021 season in which she competed in the NCAA DII South Regional. Her average score was a 74.9 with a low round of 70, which came in first round of the season. She finished 5th in the UIndy Invitational field last year going +6.
Haughton is back for her senior season after averaging a 75.5 in 21 rounds played last season. She finished 14th individually last year in this tournament with a +13.
Herrera competed in 11 rounds, with a scoring average of 79.4.
Holland averaged a 77.3 in her 21 rounds.
Nemes competed in 19 rounds with an average score of 78.9.
Cline averaged a 79 in tournaments in high school, with four top ten finishes. She was all-conference three times.
15 other teams will compete against the Eagles. Lincoln Memorial is the only other South Atlantic Conference team competing against C-N in the event.
