C-N puts four on All-Conference teams

ROCK HILL, S.C.- Carson-Newman was well represented with four South-Atlantic Conference preseason selections, as the league announced on Tuesday. 

Carson-Newman's four selections were second most in the conference.

The Eagles placed forward Harry Whitehead and defender Eric Schmutzer on the first team. It is the fifth straight season that C-N has placed at least 2 players on the first team. On the second team, was forward Nic Carsh and midfielder Yannick Kranz

For the ninth year in a row, the Eagles have multiple players selected to a preseason all-conference team. 

Whitehead earns a preseason honor for the second consecutive season, after being selected to the second team in 2021. The 2021 second-team All-South Atlantic Conference selection led the team in shots attempted last season with 54. He finished second on the team with six goals, 15 points, and 23 shots on goal. Whitehead enters his senior season, already having played in 36 games with 34 starts. He has scored 10 career goals in his first three years with C-N.

Schmutzer was also a second-team All-SAC selection for his efforts last season. He earns his second SAC conference team honor. The Wollersdorf, Austria native, played an integral role in what was one of the top defensive units in the SAC last season. The group allowed a conference best 17 goals in 16 games played. Schmutzer also made an impact on the offensive end scoring a go-ahead goal on Oct. 16 against Newberry. 

Carsh earns his third preseason all-conference honor. In 2020, he was a preseason first-team selection and this past season was also a preseason second-team selection. He scored two goals and added four assists this past season. The senior has made 39 appearances and 26 starts with the Eagles. He has scored 10 career goals and has eight career assists.

Kranz earns his first preseason all-conference honor. In his second year with the team, he led the Eagles with six assists, and he scored two goals as well. His 10 points were good for third on the team. In his two seasons with C-N, Kranz has played in 26 games, making 24 starts. 

Carson-Newman opens up the seasonon Aug. 25 at home when it takes on West Alabama.
