Super-Region 2 Breakdown (PDF)

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - No. 17 Carson-Newman is one of twelve teams under consideration for the NCAA tournament, following the first region rankings that were released yesterday.

NCAA DII Men's Soccer is split up into four super regions. The Eagles are in Super-Region 2, with teams from the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas, Gulf South Conference, Peach Belt Conference, and Sunshine State Conference.

The Super-Region rankings are determined by several metrics. Strength of schedule, in-region record, in-region RPI, in-region strength of schedule, and performance indicator.

Carson-Newman is one of three SAC teams in the rankings, which for the first week, are listed in alphabetical order instead of rank order. The other two SAC schools are Coker and Wingate. C-N tied both teams at home earlier this season.

The Eagles' in-region RPI is eight. C-N's strength of schedule is 0.535. Stephen Lyons' team is 2-2-5 and against teams with a winning record. Their performance indicator is 18.286. C-N's in-region ranking is 7-2-5.

Four of the other eleven teams in the first region rankings are ranked inside the top 15 in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll, No. 5 Barry, No. 10 Florida Tech, No. 12 Lander, and No. 15 West Florida.

Converse, Palm Beach Atlantic, Nova Southeastern, Rollins, and Tampa are the other teams in the first Super-Region 2 rankings.

Florida Tech is the only unbeaten team, sporting a 6-0-5 record. Coker has the least number of wins among teams in consideration after the first region rankings.

Among teams under consideration, in the other three super-regions, C-N has not faced any of those teams.

Each Wednesday the NCAA will release super-region rankings. Only ten teams from each super-region will make the NCAA tournament. Five at-large bids and five conference champions from the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas, Gulf South Conference, Peach Belt Conference, and Sunshine State Conference comprise the field.

The Eagles aim to end finish the regular season on a high note, when they travel to Tusculum next Wednesday (Oct. 26). The match will begin at 7:30 p.m.
