JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.- Carson-Newman men's soccer head coach Stephen Lyons has added Greg Evans to his coaching staff. Evans will serve as a volunteer assistant coach.
"I'm excited, it's a great program, great opportunity to learn and the squad we have this year is exciting," Evans said.
Evans arrived at C-N in 2016, where we played over five seasons with the Eagles. He served as the team captain for his final three years on the team. While serving as captain, Evans and his teammates won two SAC conference regular season championships.
Over the course of five plus seasons with the Eagles, he played a total of 6,304 minutes, which ranks first all-time in C-N men's soccer history. In 2018, he was one of two Eagles to play in all 1,590 minutes of action. The midfielder played in 76 games total, making 71 starts. Those 71 starts rank third all-time.
"It's a demanding experience, so I want the guys to realize that every game counts," Evans said. "It's not like you can take one game off, and say oh, these guys don't have a good record, we can just relax. You can't do that in the SAC conference, so I want them to understand that."
From his midfield position, Evans scored two goals, and recorded four assists in his Eagles career. While helping the Eagles men's soccer team, he is entering his first year as the men's soccer coach at Lakeway Christian Academy.
Carson-Newman opens up the season on Aug. 25 at home when it takes on West Alabama.
