Senior Day brings Newberry to town

C-N Match Notes

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.- After defeating a ranked opponent yesterday, Carson-Newman men's soccer (5-1-4, 3-0-3) now prepares for a short turnaround when Newberry (3-4-1, 2-2-1) comes to Mossy Creek tomorrow evening.

The game has been moved up a day due to heavy rainfall expected all day Saturday. It will be the quickest turnaround the Eagles have all season, with just one day off between games.

The match is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. It will serve as C-N's senior day.

The Eagles will honor 13 seniors. Darrin De Meza, Ben King, Niels Buurman, Jannik Schulte, Yannick Kranz, Ewan Lynch, Tim Vercelli, Gustavo Moses Bessa, Quinten Carels, Eric Schmutzer, Gabe Stevens, Gabe Martin, Matheus Maia. This group of seniors have played a combined 275 games with the Eagles.

"A huge credit to this senior group," Carson-Newman head coach Stephen Lyons said. "I could not ask for a better group to make our job easy. They leave everything out on the field. We've talked about it a few times this year, they've learned from previous seasons, that when we face adversity we know how to bounce back. We are going to miss them; it will be nice to honor them tomorrow."

C-N's win over #14 Mars Hill last night extends their unbeaten streak in September to 12 games and six this season. The win over ranked opponent also extended C-N's unbeaten streak against ranked opponents at home to eight games.

The Eagles have had eleven different players score a goal this season. Vercelli and Nic Carsh tie for the team lead with three goals scored. Willem Kruijk is the top assist man with four. The Eagles offense ranks tied for second in the SAC in goals scored (18).

C-N enters the match with 12 points in the SAC table, trailing Limestone by just one point.

Newberry (3-4-1, 2-2-1) invades Mossy Creek after a 1-1 draw with Wingate yesterday evening. The Wolves two conference wins are against Emory & Henry and Lincoln Memorial.

They sport a 2-1-1 record on the road this season.

Uriel Zurracan leads the Wolves in goals (4), points (9), shots (12) and shots on goal (8). The offense is tied for 3rd in goals scored per match this season.

Goalkeeper Pablo Cubas has made seven starts, and allowed 12 goals. He has made 34 saves, which ranks second in the SAC.

Newberry sits in a tie for 6th place in the SAC standings with seven points.

"They're a good team," Lyons said. "We know they are going to be organized and super hardworking."

The Eagles have not been beaten by the Wolves in twelve straight matches.
