C-N drops hard fought contest against Young Harris

Box Score

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.- Carson-Newman (2-1) fought hard but gave up a late Young Harris (1-1-1) goal to suffer its first loss of 2022.

"Very disappointed for the guys tonight," Coach Stephen Lyons said. "After the first 25 minutes we finally started to work our way into the game. The red card obviously made a difference, but I could not have asked of any more from the lads. They worked tirelessly and limited clear-cut chances. I'm so proud of how the players on the pitch put everything in and if we continue to do that I am confident we will get results."

The match was phyiscal early on. Senior Ben King and graduate student Gustavo Moses Bessa received two yellow cards in the first 23 minutes of game action. The game would change in the 42nd minute as Moses Bessa received a second yellow and the Eagles played the remainder of the match a man down.

C-N's defense responded and was able to keep YHC off the scoreboard until the 87th minute. Off a cross from Edoardo Righetti from the left side of the box, the ball found the feet of Mikkel Goeling who buried a shot in the lower left part of goal to give Young Harris the 1-0 victory. C-N withstood 15 previous shots fired in from the Mountain Lions

C-N had opportunities itself at scoring. The first shot for the Eagles came in the 34th minute off the foot of senior Willem Kruijk, but it missed wide left. C-N would fire in three more shots to close the half, one of which was on goal but saved by YHC goalkeeper Henrik Timgren.

Playing a man down, C-N only managed one shot which came in the closing seconds from graduate student Ewan Lynch

Senior Darin De Meza got the start in goal and did not disappoint. He recorded five saves and did all he could to keep the game scoreless.

YHC outshot C-N 16-5 and 6-2 on goal. Each team received three yellow cards in the match. It's the first loss for the Eagles when playing a man down since falling to Tusculum on October 3rd, 2018.

C-N looks to get back to its winning ways when it faces off against Lee for a Saturday night matchup. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
