MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (1-0) took down Milligan College (2-1) 7-2 in its first preseason match on Sunday.
The Eagles swept the Buffaloes in doubles play. In the no. 1 spot, Stefy Stand (Ecuador) and freshman Breanne Tremblay defeated Rachel Hodas and Sarah Rainwater 9-7. At no. 2 doubles, Brooke Sanderson (Evans, Ga.) and Katie Brown (Douglasville, Ga.) beat Caroline Morelli and Ahmee Kelly 8-4 and at no. 3, Jennifer Ott (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Patricia Guerreiro (Portugal) triumphed over Heather Espeland and Celeste Carpenter with an 8-1 final.
In singles play, Chastain brought home a big victory against Espeland 6-1, 6-1 in the no. 5 spot. At no. 2 singles, Tremblay conquered Rainwater 6-1, 6-2 and at no. 6, Sanderson beat Martha Wells 6-1, 6-3. In the no. 3 position, Guerreiro overcame Carpenter despite a close second set with a 6-2, 7-6 decision.
At no. 4 singles, Ott took Kelly to a third set tiebreaker before dropping the match 7-5, 0-6, 10-4.
The Eagles look forward to continuing regular season on February 15th at Young-Harris at1 p.m.
