Lady Eagles gear up for conference match against Catawba

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman (8-5, 2-1 SAC) women's tennis team looks to secure another conference victory against Catawba (9-9, 1-3 SAC) tomorrow at 2:15 p.m.

"This is," Carson-Newman head tennis coach Jean Love said, "a big conference match for both teams."

In C-N's last match, the Lady Eagles swept SAC foe Coker 9-0. Katie Brown (Douglasville, Ga.) is currently on an eight match winning streak, and the doubles team of Patricia Guerreiro (Portugal) and Jennifer Ott (Knoxville, Tenn.) has won its last six games.

On Feb. 27, Catawba defeated Coker 9-0 for its first conference win.

The Indians beat Lees-McRae 8-1 in their last match on March 5. Catawba stole six of its points in two sets. Its seventh and eighth points were won by default at no. 6 singles and no. 3 doubles because the Bobcats could not field enough players.

Last season, the Eagles lost to Catawba 6-3. Brooke Sanderson (Evans, Ga.) donated C-N's lone singles point with a 6-4, 6-7, 10-7 win over Olivia Myers in the no. 5 spot. The Eagles left over points came at no. 2 and 3 doubles.

"We need to," Coach Love said, "establish ourselves in the doubles and create some positive momentum heading into the singles."

The Eagles and Indians will go head-to-head tomorrow at 2:15 p.m. at the Carson-Newman Tennis Complex.
