Lady Eagles open season at Young Harris

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman (3-1) women's tennis team heads to Young Harris (0-1) for its first match of the spring season tomorrow.

"Young Harris is a formidable opponent," Carson-Newman head tennis coach Jean Love said. "It will be a tough match."

The Eagles finished 3-1 after their 2013 fall season. The women defeated Milligan 7-2, dropped Barton 5-2 and swept Limestone 5-0.

The doubles team of Jennifer Ott (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Patricia Guerreiro (Portugal) is currently on a three-match win streak.

"As a coach," Coach Love said, "I am looking forward to seeing us against outside competition."

The Mountain Lions toppled 9-0 in their first match against Valdosta State last Sunday.

Last season, the Eagles were swept 9-0 in their home opener against Young Harris.

"The Young Harris match is the season opener for the women," Coach Love said. "We are excited to get the season started."

The match begins at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16.
