Eagles drop nail biter to Catawba

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman (8-6, 2-2 SAC) women's tennis team fell to Catawba (9-9, 1-3 SAC) in a 5-4 heartbreaker Friday afternoon.

 

The team of Katie Brown (Douglasville, Ga.) and Brooke Sanderson (Evans, Ga.) secured the Eagles' lone point in doubles play with an 8-4 decision in the no. 3 spot.

 

Senior Stefy Stand (Ecuador) contributed a point to C-N from no. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Sloan Kessler. At no. 3 singles, Breanne Tremblay (Canada) toppled Maddy Henderson 6-1, 6-4.

 

Brown won her ninth consecutive match against Ally Prior at no. 5 singles with a 7-5, 6-0 final.

 

Patricia Guerreiro took Liz Renteria to three sets at no. 1 singles before dropping the match 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. Sanderson battled hard in the no. 5 position, but Lauren Sledd ultimately won 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.

 

The Eagles will continue conference play tomorrow against Wingate tomorrow at noon.
