JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman (9-9, 2-5 SAC) women's tennis team was defeated 6-3 by Mars Hill (7-8, 5-4 SAC) Wednesday afternoon.

"It was a disappointing day for the women," Carson-Newman head tennis coach Jean Love said. "We just came out flat and never really got on track."

The team of Brooke Sanderson (Evans, Ga.) and Katie Brown (Douglasville, Ga.) claimed the Eagles' lone doubles point in the no. 3 spot. The duo toppled Natalie Hilbig and Grace Diepenbrock 8-4.

In singles play, Brown won her 12th consecutive match beating Hilbig in straight sets 6-2, 6-0 in the no. 5 position. At no. 6 singles, Haleigh Chastain (Knoxville, Tenn.) dominated Diepenbrock 6-1, 6-0.

Sanderson dropped her match at no. 4 singles to Jade Henke after a first set tiebreaker 7-6 (7-3), 6-4. Stefy Stand (Ecuador) also took her opponent Anna Rickenbaker to a tiebreaker in the first set, but ultimately lost 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.
