Eagles begin conference play at Newberry

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman (4-2, 0-0 SAC) women's tennis team heads to Newberry (5-3, 1-0 SAC) tomorrow for its first conference match at 12:30 p.m.

"This match is especially important," Carson-Newman head tennis coach Jean Love said, "because it is our conference opener. We want to get off to a good start."

The Lady Eagles are coming off a big win 7-2 against Lee University Tuesday afternoon. C-N swept the flames in doubles play. The duo of Patricia Guerreiro (Portugal) and Jennifer Ott (Knoxville, Tenn.) are now on a five-match win streak. Guerreiro extended her solo win streak to four.

Stefy Stand (Ecuador), Brooke Sanderson (Evans, Ga.) and Brianne Tremblay also contributed singles points.

"We are going to stay focused on the process of doing the little things it takes to get better," Coach Love said. "Each individual and each doubles team is committed to this approach."

The Wolves fell 6-3 to North Georgia last Tuesday. The teams of Susan Aguirre/Romina Adum and Vanessa Ortiz/Marina Ziehe each brought in a point at no. 1 and no. 2 doubles respectively.

Ziehe added the third at no. 6 singles.

"This is another opportunity," Coach Love said, "for us to get better and learn about ourselves."

On Feb. 8, Newberry defeated Anderson 7-2 to claim its first conference victory.

The match begins at 12:30 p.m.
