Eagles head south for Super Regional Preview

VIDEO: Randy Wylie Interview

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman golf continues their fall slate as the team heads south to Valdosta, Ga for the Super Regional Preview at Kinderlou Forrest.

The Eagles are coming off a fairly impressive showing at the Cougar Invitational, as the team was able to collect a top-five finish. Now, the Eagles shift their attention to the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Super Regional at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga.

"Obviously part of the reason we go to the regional preview is to prepare for making the NCAA tournament, so that is one of our main goals this year," said head coach Randy Wylie. "It is a great course and this field will be really solid. It's a big week for us to kinda solidify our ranking and start to develop the resume needed to get that NCAA invite in April."

The Regional Preview will feature 12 teams including the host Valdosta State Blazers. Christian Brothers, Montevallo, Shorter, West Georgia, Clayton State, Eckerd, Georgia College, Miles, Newberry and Truett-McConnell will all join Carson-Newman this week in the peach state. The latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division II rankings put Georgia College at 16th and West Georgia tied for 22nd. Valdosta State is the second team among others receiving votes.  Carson-Newman, Clayton State and Newberry also are among others receiving votes.

Wylie is tweaking the Eagles' lineup this week as Alex Hodge will join the Carson-Newman group in Valdosta. "Alex has been an all-conference player in multiple college tournaments," Wylie said. "He is a very dependable starter who brings a lot of experience to this lineup."

The tournament will begin at 9 a.m. each day. Live scoring can be found on GolfStat, and daily recaps can be found on cneagles.com.
