Nielsen leads C-N to third in Super Regional Preview

Final Results

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman men's golf is headed back to Mossy Creek with a top-three finish in the NCAA Division II Super Regional Preview in Valdosta, Ga.

Jonathan Nielsen (Hørsholm, Denmark) recorded another one-under par day to wrap up his time at Kinderlou Forrest on Tuesday. The 71 stroke performance saw Nielsen notch two birdies on the front nine, while shooting for par on every other hole but one. Nielsen's three round total of 216 put him in a three-way tie for fourth. 

Day two of the tournament saw almost every Eagle climb in the rankings. "I was very pleased with our final round," said coach Randy Wylie. "It was a great come back for the guys. Another solid finish from Jonathan Nielsen. He has really been able start his sophomore year with a bang. Overall, we had good contributions from everyone including a stellar 68 in the final round by Jake Mynatt." 

Mynatt's four-under round three saw him shoot six total birdies, with three of them coming consecutively on the front nine. Mynatt was able to leap 28 total spots in the final leaderboard, where he tied for 18th. Jackson Tyler, who competed as an individual, was among those tied with Mynatt. Tyler was able to put together four birdies on the back nine in round three, bringin his final overall score to 220.

Alex Hodge jumped 11 spots in the player leaderboard in the final round, as he shot an even 72 in the third round. The three round total of 219 tied him for 15th. 

Elliot MacGregor (Shepperton, Middlesex) stumbled a little after a solid day one. While finishing the round at five-over, MacGregor was still able to record three birdies on the day. MacGregor finished the tournament tied for 22nd. 

Rounding out the scoring for the Eagles in Valdosta was Will Collins, who brought his final score to 223. Collins was only two strokes over par in the final round thanks to two birdies.
