Eagles remain at fourth in Golfstat rankings

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Just two days away from the NCAA selection show, the Carson-Newman men's golf team holds steady at fourth in the latest Golfstat rankings.

The Eagles are joined by fellow SAC teams no. 5 Lincoln Memorial, no. 10 Limestone, and no. 24 Queens in the rankings. Barry remains in the no. 1 spot. 

Carson-Newman is also ranked no. 2 in the Bushnell/Golfweek coaches poll. 

Individually, Jonathan Nielsen slid four spots to 12th in all of Division-II. Nielsen finished the SAC Men's Golf Championship tied at 14th with a two-under, 214 score. His 38 pars were tied for the most in the tournament.

Jake Mynatt moved up three spots to 58th overall. Mynatt finished tied at tenth at the SAC Tournament with Jackson Tyler and Will Collins with a three-round, three-under 213 score for the Eagles. He was one of just four players this week to record multiple eagles at the SAC Men's Golf Championship.

Tyler holds firm this week, remaining at 97th in the individual rankings. The senior shot up the leaderboard on the final day of the SAC Championship, carding an impressive five-under, 67 in the final round. Tyler recorded six birdies, including three straight on the 14th, 15th and 16th holes to move all the way up to a tie for tenth place with a three-round, three-under 213 score.

Alex Hodge fell down to 99th in the rankings. The Knoxville, Tenn. native finished the SAC Tournament tied for 52nd with a 14-over 230 score. He shot his best round of the week in the final round of the event, shooting a three-over 75.

Collins moved up a full 18 spots to 110th in the individual rankings. The junior carded six birdies on his final day at the Graysburg Hills golf course. Collins finished tied for tenth with teammates Jackson Tyler and Jake Mynatt with a three-under 213 score for the tournament. 

AJ Ewart of Barry sits in first as the number one individual golfer.

The Eagles, who hold the no. one overall spot in the NCAA Southeast Region Rankings, will wait to see what seed they earn for the tournament. The NCAA will announce seedings on ncaa.com on Friday, Apr. 22. Fans can stay up-to-date with all of the Carson-Newman men's golf action at cneagles.com.
