JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman Men's Golf team has come to the midway point of their 2021 fall slate as they travel to Kannapolis to compete in the Queens Invitational.
The first two matches of the season saw the Eagles record some historic individual performances by the likes of Jonathan Nielsen (Hørsholm, Denmark) and Jake Mynatt. The C-N starting five was able to record finishes inside the top five at each of the first two tournaments, finishing tied for fifth in Columbus and coming home third from Valdosta. Coach Randy Wylie is pleased with what he has seen from his men so far.
"I like the way we're competing hard," Wylie said. "I like our team that we've been taking to tournaments. I think it bodes really well for our upcoming events... They're playing hard for each other which I think is fantastic."
The Eagles look to use some of the momentum they have gained in their first to events to make a splash at the upcoming Queens Invitational. Carson-Newman is no stranger to the Irish Creek Country Club, and Wylie expects his group to continue their run of strong finishes.
"We've played the course. We like it a lot," Wylie said."It suits us really well. The field is really really good. It's a deep field. We should have a good chance to have another high finish and keep our season rolling."
The Eagles do have some history at the Queens Invitational. Their most recent trip to Kannapolis was in 2019 when the Eagles were two-under through their last 18 holes of play, one of just three teams to shoot in the red during the last round. Their 49 birdies throughout the entire event that year were the third-most in the field.
The Eagles will begin action on Monday morning. Full recaps for each day can be found on cneagles.com
